Cargotec Oyj (HEL:CGCBV) Cargotec Corporation, Press Release, December 15, 2008 at 1 p.m. Finnish time
Cargotec's Kalmar business area has received an order to supply 15 of its ESC W straddle carriers to DP World Southampton in the UK. Two of the machines will be fitted with Kalmar's new hybrid technology package and the remaining 13 are capable of being upgraded to hybrids in the future. Kalmar, which provides container handling solutions, will deliver the equipment to DP World Southampton during the first half of 2009.
The order includes seven Kalmar ESC 350W straddle carriers capable of stacking 1-over-2 high with a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and eight ESC 440W machines that can stack 1-over-3 high with a lifting capacity of 40 tonnes. All the machines feature Kalmar's latest enhanced 7th generation technology with electrical winch hoists.
The hybrid technology package is a modular option which will be fitted to one ESC 350W straddle carrier and one ESC 440W from this order. The package results in fuel savings of up to 25 or 30 per cent. By delivering more moves with less fuel, Kalmar estimates that this new technology can eliminate more than 50 tonnes of CO2 emissions per straddle carrier per year.
The unit prices for straddle carriers vary between EUR 700,000 - 900,000.
