Changes In Handelsbanken's Organisational Structure

Handelsbanken Handelsbanken has a strictly decentralised working model, whereby most business decisions are taken at the branches, close to the customer. This also means that the Bank has a very flat organisational structure; between branch manager and chief executive there is only one level - head of regional bank. This leads to short, efficient and clear decision paths.

The strong expansion of the past few years - particularly outside Sweden - has increased the demands on these decision paths. Therefore, in order to maintain and strengthen the decentralised working model, Handelsbanken's senior management is now being organised into four distinct groupings, as follows:

In conjunction with this, the following changes in senior management will take place:

Changes within senior management

* Björn Börjesson, executive vice president and head of Handelsbanken International. He will take up a newly created position in the Central Bank Management, with special responsibility for contacts with the sector and authorities as well as internal corporate governance. Effective from 15 August.

* Petri Hatakka, executive vice president and head of Regional Bank Finland. He will become the new head of Handelsbanken International, taking up the position on 15 August.

* Claes Norlén, executive vice president and head of Regional Bank Southern Sweden. He will become the new head of Handelsbanken Asset Management, and he will be responsible within senior management for insurance operations. Effective from 21 August.

* Anders Ohlner, executive vice president and head of Regional Bank Eastern Sweden. He will become the new head of Regional Bank Southern Sweden, effective from 1 July. He will also remain head of Regional Bank Eastern Sweden until a successor has been appointed.

New appointments to senior management

* Henrik Carlstedt, regional area manager, Regional Bank Finland. He has been appointed executive vice president and head of Regional Bank Finland; he will take up the position on 15 July.

* Dag Tjernsmo, head of international asset management. He has been appointed executive vice president and head of Regional Bank Norway; he will take up the position on 1 October.

When the above-mentioned appointments and changes have become effective, Handelsbanken's senior management will be as follows:
